About Kekova
Nestled along the Turquoise Coast in the Antalya region, Kekova is a jewel of unspoiled beauty, perfect for blue cruises and yachters seeking a blend of history and natural splendor. This serene bay is a treasure trove of Lycian ruins and Turkish heritage, set against a backdrop of crystal-clear waters, rocky shores, and sunlit skies. The name Kekova translates to "Plain of Thyme" in Turkish, a nod to the aromatic thyme (kekik) that grows abundantly in the region. Kekova encompasses the charming villages of Kalekoy and Ucagiz, as well as the ancient towns of Simena, Teimussa, and Tersane ("shipyard"), which once served as an important harbor.
Designated a Specially Protected Area by the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 1990, Kekova’s natural and cultural treasures are preserved against degradation. Visitors can marvel at half-submerged Lycian ruins, remnants of settlements lost to earthquakes in the 2nd century AD. However, swimming or snorkeling over the Sunken Village or other underwater ruins is prohibited to protect these historic wonders.
